How I came to be "Cashmore Wood Products"
My company was begun as a labor of love by Jack Cashmore in East Aurora, circa 1980. Like me, Jack was a lover of good wood furniture. He was also a master woodworker and craftsman. I moved to East Aurora from Buffalo in 1986. I was then an amatuer woodworker and always had some project or other going. I got stuck on a particularly difficult piece one day and brought it in to Jack to see what he could do. We immediately hit it off, and soon I began working as his able assistant. Each day was a learning experience for me and I enjoyed every minute. Seven years flew by...Then, one day Jack took me aside and told me he was going to retire shortly and sell the shop, hopefully to me! I told him I loved the idea of owning my own shop but had some doubts as to my abilities as a woodworker. Then came a very proud moment for me... He looked at me and smiled, and said, "don't worry, the student has surpassed the master." The rest, as they say, is history...or Herstory, in my case! In 2005, when an adequate space opened up, I moved the shop here to Wales Center. I couldn't be happier. It's a great place to live and work.
Home, Sweet Home...
It ain't easy moving an entire business!
But somehow, in May of '05, I did it. Seemed like it took forever, not to mention the stress I was feeling. I was worried my client base wouldn't follow me out of East Aurora, or they wouldn't be able to find me. But it all worked out just fine, just took a month or two!
